Invasive Species Week day four!

Welcome to day four of Invasive Species Week 2025! 

Activities and events to raise awareness of invasive non-native species will be held all week across England, Guernsey, Ireland, Isle of Man, Jersey, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. 

A huge thank you to everyone who has been involved so far! 

Our daily theme

Today’s theme is non-native animals.

We're asking pet owners to protect the welfare of their animals and native wildlife by keeping pets securely and never releasing them into the wild.

We're working closely with the pet sector on a new awareness raising campaign for pet owners, coming soon! In the meantime:

Events today

Today’s webinar takes place at 14:00, with Natural Selections of South Florida and the Cayman Islands Government discussing invasive reptiles and amphibians in the Caribbean UK Overseas Territories and wider Caribbean Region, and how the Cayman Islands Government are protecting native biodiversity. Find out more and register.

Other events taking place today include:

  • 10:00-14:00: North Wales Wildlife Trust are hosting a nature walk in Bangor. Find out more and register to attend
  • 10:00-15:00: Paddle UK, Leaside Trust Canoe Club and others are running a volunteer session to remove floating pennywort from the River Lea. Find out more and register to attend.
  • All day: South West Water and South West Lakes Trust are holding their annual South West Invasive Species Forum.
  • Look out for an article on yellow-legged hornet from the National Bee Unit, on the APHA Science Blog later – you can also find recent blog posts from National Plant Health Week on the Colorado Beetle, and how genomics is used to fight plant health threats.
