Today’s theme is ‘Be Plant Wise’. We’re asking gardeners and pond and aquarium owners to help prevent their plants from escaping into the wild where they could become invasive.
Here are a few of the activities taking place to raise awareness of Be Plant Wise and invasive non-native plants:
- Our webinar today is: Using citizen science to prevent future spread of invasive non-native plants - with Coventry University
- Yesterday, Baroness Hayman, Defra Minister for Biosecurity, Borders and Animals, visited CABI to see their biocontrol programme for invasive plants first-hand: UK Minister visits CABI to strengthen action against Britain's most destructive invasive species – CABI Blog
- APHA has published a science blog from the Non-native Species Inspectorate, on their work to tackle online sales of invasive non-native species
- The RHS has updated its guidance for gardeners on invasive plants
- Yesterday, the new North East Non-native Species Strategy and Action Plan was launched
- The National Trust for Scotland has shared how Rhododendron ponticum is a problem in Scotland, including a video on how they are turning the problem into a solution
