Look out for water primrose this summer!
This is the time of year to look out for the distinctive yellow flowers of water primrose. This species was originally introduced from South America as an ornamental plant, but has since begun to invade our watercourses, covering the water surface, crowding out native plants and animals, increasing the flood risk, and interfering with recreational activities such as angling and boating.

Water primrose is not yet widespread in Britain but if it establishes more widely it could cost the economy millions of pounds each year to control. The Environment Agency is coordinating the eradication of water primrose before this can happen.
