British Indian Ocean Territory workshop

British Indian Ocean Territory horizon scanning exercise

A very successful horizon scanning exercise has been completed for the British Indian Ocean Territory. The consensus workshop was held in Diego Garcia on 3rd and 6th August. The workshop was led by Prof. Helen Roy from the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology, assisted by a team of taxonomic experts from the EU, with participation by the local administration, customs and environmental teams. The priority invasive non-native species of concern are dominated by fire ants and snakes. Pathway action plans are now being drafted, aimed at reducing the risk of introduction.
